scope. Concept and User experience design for a new product that helps users protect their online identity
team. Joined the resident consumer experience team at F-Secure Corporation as a user experience designer. Working closely with our visual designer, creative writer and engineers, acting as the owner of design delivery.
outcome. An ever evolving product that lets users check their exposure through data breaches and take actions to prevent becoming a victim of identity theft.
Problem Area
Our personal information is scattered in the online world.
Even if we pay attention to which services we share our information with, data breaches happen, where our information becomes public or available for hackers.
Users are aware that their information is open for exposure and that there is a possibility of real-life damage. Early interviews with potential users revealed so:
Journey
In our fast-paced journey to enter the market as an early player, we started with benchmarking and a Design Sprint to align the understanding of stakeholders. Initial user tests in the sprint let us strip down the misconceptions and clutter.
We kept iterating on our concept and kept organizing user testing sessions to discover user needs and expectations from a product claiming to protect their online experience.
Main goals
Meeting users and experts shaped the goals for the product:
let users become aware of data breaches involving their information early on,
give them guidance on how to prevent further damage,
educate them on minimizing the risk of becoming part of breaches
Solution
An ever-evolving mobile app that leads users to a healthier online identity and peace of mind.
We are iterating based on user feedback and collaborating with experts in the field. This way, we keep improving both the quality of the guidance we provide and the mobile app experience.
Actively monitoring user's email addresses for data breaches

I completed my Master's thesis within this project.
The main focus was on the Design Sprint conducted at the beginning of the project, as well as on the Dark patterns that we aimed to avoid in product design. The Design Sprint helped us kick-start the project, while our efforts to eliminate dark patterns in our design allowed us to prioritize providing honest protection to users.
